Two local bodies in lockdown as COVID-19 patients surpass one thousand in State-1

State 1, August 3 : State-1 has surpassed one thousand COVID-19 caseloads.

From its highest 3-digit number of 993 on July 30, State-1 saw 4-digit pandemic patients of 1024 for the first time on July 31.

As of Monday afternoon, the pandemic patients’ tally has reached 1071. According to the Corona Information Desk of the State-1 Government, 897 male and 174 females have tested positive as of Monday afternoon.

Nawaraj Rai, the Chief Personal Secretary to the Chief Minister Sherdhan Rai and the member of the desk said only 247 patients are undergoing treatment in the state.

”Our caseloads stats at 1071 and it seems to be a big number”, said Rai adding, ”But, the fact is only 247- 204 male and 43 female, are undergoing treatment.

Remaining patients are discharged after recovering.” With rapid surges of cases in the metropolis, Biratnagar Metropolitan City Office has imposed local lockdown starting from August.

The 14-day-long lockdown would not be applicable to health, media and emergency services in the city, said Mayor Bhim Parajuli.

City Police of Biratnagar are deployed to impose strict lockdown. Mayor Parajuli said if not abided by, metropolis would think about imposing curfew in order to prevent pandemic from rapidly spreading into the communities.

Previously, just a day before Nepal’s nationwide lockdown starting from March 24, Biratnagar had announced local lockdown to help prevent the pandemic.

Likewise, after eight cases surfaced on the community level, Belaka Municipality of Udayapur has imposed local lockdown at Rampur Bazar of the municipality since July end. Mayor Durga Kumar Thapa said the lockdown would be in place until the return of normalcy in the municipality.

So far state-1 has seen three deaths from COVID-19. Out of them, only has is local death. A 45-year-old patient from Biratnagar succumbed to the pandemic on July 29 at Dharan-based B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences.

He was ventilated before breathing his last, said Dr. Nidesh Sapkota, the spokesperson at the BPKIHS.
Before the first recorded local death, two orderly patients- aged 73 and 63, from Saptari and Mahottari districts of State-1 were died at BPKIHS.
