Pokhara, April 11: Three parties, including the main opposition party, Nepali Congress have united to remove the current government in Gandaki Province.
The Nepali Congress, the recently ousted CPN-Maoist Center and the Janata Samajwadi Party have decided to topple the government of Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung.
The equation of the new government to be formed after the overthrow of the government is also being formed internally.
“We have agreed to replace the current government with a new one. The three parties have reached an agreement, ‘said Kumar Khadka, a Congress MP and coordinator of the negotiation committee. He however said that Jana Morcha party is unclear. ‘A meeting with the Jana Morcha has been held on Saturday.
Janamorcha parliamentary party leader Krishna Thapa is of the view that there should be a joint government of UML and Maoists. ‘Congress and Madhesi cannot run the government. They did a very bad thing in past. At least it would have been better if the UCPN (M) and UML had run it, ‘he said.
There is support for this government now, “Thapa added. I had to see the face of the newcomer. Thapa is thinking of supporting Prithvi Subba Gurung’s government and joining the government. But he backed down after the party said it could not support the government.
Janamorcha MPs do not have the same opinion about the government equation. MP Piyari Thapa says that the current Chief Minister will be removed anyway. ‘The Oli trend is growing. The chief minister is his right hand man, she said,’ now it will have to be removed anyway. And a new government is needed. ‘The Jana Morcha has called a meeting of the parliamentary parties on Sunday to discuss the balance of power.
At present, there is no possibility of a single party government in Gandaki. Currently, the UML government has support of Maoists and the Janamorcha. However, it seems certain that the Maoists will withdraw its support. Therefore, Chief Minister Gurung is making internal preparations to save the government.
It depends on the role of the Jana Morcha to topple and protect the government. Wherever the Jana Morcha supports, the government is formed. UML has 28 MPs including independents. The Congress has 15 MPs and the Maoist Center has 12 MPs, while the Janamorcha has three MPs and the Janata Samajwadi Party has two MPs. With the exception of the UML, the other party has 32 members, which is enough to form a government.
