Kathmandu, May 22: Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Agni Prasad Sapkota has stated that the dissolution of the HoR was an undemocratic and unconstitutional move.

Issuing a press statement today, the Speaker said his serious attention was drawn to the move of dissolving the Parliament for the second time as it was against the Supreme Court’s constitutional court verdict of 23 February 2021 and constitutional, political and legal remedies exercised for 67 days till against dissolution of the House on December 20.

The press release reads that dissolution of the parliament despite having several alternates to form a new government was against the spirit and letters of the constitution.

The press release further states that a claim for alternative government was presented before the President to form the new government with the signatures of the parliamentarians as per the Article 76 (5) of the constitution but surprisingly reaching to the conclusion of dissolution was not natural and constitutional.

He further mentioned that it was a critical hour to fight against the deadly COVID-19 but new political crisis caused by the dissolution of the parliament has pushed the country to further crisis.

The latest move has created an extra economic burden to the people and the country. Speaker Sapkota has further appealed to the political parties, parliamentarians, civil society, constitutional experts, legal professionals, intellectuals, media and all concerned sides to safeguard the constitutional supremacy and democracy.
