Six child labourers rescued from 4 restaurants of Pokhara

Pokhara, Jan 23: Six child labourers have been rescued from different restaurants of Pokhara Metropolis. They have been rescued from Poudel Khaja Ghar -Simalchaur, New Thakali Guest House and Thakali Bhancha Ghar, Myagdi A One Khaja Ghar and Jomsom Bhanchaghar & Restaurant.

They were rescued with the joint effort of Labor and Employment Office Pokhara, District Police Office Pokhara, CWSN Pokhara, Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Child Labor Reduction Program, cooperation and people’s representatives.

According to Chhanda Narayan Shrestha, inspector at the Labor and Employment Office, Pokhara, there is a legal provision that children under the age of 14 cannot be employed in risky jobs under any pretext.

Those who employ children in violation of the law will be prosecuted and the children will be compensated. He said that the rescued children would be protected by the state.

There are many child laborers in the Pokhara Metropolitan City, said Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry Child Labor Reduction Coordinator Preeti Pandey. She urged the local government, civil society, employers and various organizations working in the field of children to be vigilant to make Pokhara a child labor free zone by controlling it completely.
