Kathmandu: Rabi Lamichhane has  re-acquired citizenship from the Kathmandu District Administration Office as per the law today.

Chief District Officer Ghanshyam Upadhyaya informed that he has been granted citizenship again as per the Citizenship Act.

He had taken citizenship on the basis of descent in 1994 AD. He then took American citizenship. After coming to Nepal, he renounced his American citizenship in 2018 but didn’t take the citizenship of Nepal again as per law.

He was elected as a member of the House of Representatives in the election held on November 20. Hee was appointed as the home minister on December 26.

A writ was filed against in the Supreme Court claiming that he has no Nepali citizenship and has been using the old citizenship which automatically got cancelled after taking the American one.

On January 27th, the Supreme Court dismissed Rabi’s position as an MP. Along with that, he also lost the post of party chairman and deputy prime minister and home minister.
