Pokhara: Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality issued a public notice and ordered to immediately remove the unauthorized structures built around Fewa lake and to stop the under-construction structures within the 65 meters from the bank of the lake.
According to the interim order of the Supreme Court, Mayor Dhanraj Acharya gave instructions. He also directed the city police to immediately stop the construction work of those structures and to confiscate the construction materials.
He warned that if the structure is constructed in violation of the directives of the metropolis, the cost of demolition will be recovered from the concerned person.
Meanwhile, Madhav Paudel, a businessman running a Vegan restaurant at Khahre in Lakeside, had a dispute with the city police who came to inform him to stop the construction of illegal structures.
He also gave a challenge that he will not demolish any structure and will not allow the metropolis to do so. According to the metropolis, both the houses and businesses built on the lake shore are against the standards and no approval has been taken from the metropolis.
The team including the mayor also reached the wetlands in the watershed area of lake He said that rocks and soil have been piled up in the upper area of the lake to stop the natural flow of water. He also said that wetlands can only be used for agricultural purposes.
