Pokhara executive meeting: Congress ward chairpersons refused to sign

Pokhara: An executive meeting has been held in Pokhara Metropolitan City after four months. The executive meeting, which was adjourned after Mayor Man Bahadur GC suffered a stroke on July 16, was held on Friday after Deputy Chief Manju Devi Gurung was given the responsibility of acting mayor.

Saying that the agenda of the meeting was not made available in time and the decision was taken in a way that would cause damage to the metropolis, the ward chairpersons from the Congress side refused to sign in protest. He said that even if he participates in the meeting, he will not sign until he gets a copy of the decision.


“It simply came to our notice then. We did not know the agenda in time, ‘said Shankar Prasad Bastola, chairman of Pokhara 4 and deputy leader of the Nepali Congress. Therefore, we have said that we will sign the decision only after it is satisfactory.

The 52nd executive meeting has discussed and decided on 22 different agendas. The meeting has decided to provide Rs 2 million for the treatment of Mayor Man Bahadur GC. It has been agreed to give Rs 2 million on the basis of bill voucher. However, some ward chairpersons have suggested that the expenditure should be increased. For the first time, Rs 1 million has been given for the treatment of GC.

The meeting also decided to move the landfill from current location. As the landfill is located on the flight route of the airport currently under construction, it is being shifted to Pashmang of Ward 16. Preparations have been made to move the landfill with agreement with ward 20.

According to sources, an agreement has been reached to construct  road worth Rs 15 million for the first year. However, ward chairman Seem Gurung said that the landfill would not be moved without the consent of the locals.
