Kathmandu: Ratan Bhandari’s book entitled ‘Nepal’s First Woman Minister Dwarika Devi Thakurani’ was released amidst a programme on Saturday.

CPN-UML leader Dr Bhim Bahadur Rawal and Nepali Congress (NC) Chief Whip in the House of Representatives (HoR) Ramesh Lekhak jointly launched the book about the first-ever woman minister of Nepal.

Former Deputy Prime Minister Rawal said it was not a good sign for the ruling parties to discuss towards re-appointing a person with the controversy in the serious matter such as citizenship as the home minister.

“Making the owner of a foreign employment company the Minister for Labour was a gesture of disrespect to the federal democratic republic and the brave politicians like Thakurani”.

He also said it was surprising on part of the NC to submit application to the parliament secretariat for the status of main opposition party for which NC was obviously entitled to.

NC leader Lekhak said it was due to the contributions of Dwarika Devi Thakurani Nepal’s parliament now has 33 percent women representation.

He further said NC was effortful to cut through the problems seen at political level. Thakurani was the first woman minister in the cabinet led by Nepal’s first people-elected Prime Minister BP Koirala in 1959 AD.
