Locals demand repeal of decision to keep landfill site in Pokhara-33

Pokhara: Locals have protested saying that the Pokhara Metropolitan City is preparing to set up a landfill site in Ward No. 33 Bharatpokhari.

A speaker at a discussion program organized in association with the citizens of Bharatpokhari today has demanded immediate reversal of the decision to keep the landfill site in Bharatpokhari without any discussion among the stakeholders.

Program Coordinator Hem Bahadur Thapa Parajuli said that they have drawn serious attention to the issue of allocating Rs. 8 crores.

Stating that Bharatpokhari is one of the best tourist destinations in Pokhara due to its geographical location, he clarified that the locals are not ready to set up a landfill site in this place.

Yagya Prasad Adhikari, former chairman of the Bharatpokhari Village Development Committee, said that they did not agree to exchange development with garbage and demanded that the decision be overturned. Former chairman of Bharatpokhari VDC Gopal Pun said that all the ward residents would collectively oppose the decision to keep the landfill site.
