Makwanpur, August 12: The dead body of Assistant Editor of Kantipur, a national vernacular daily, Balaram Baniya, has been found in Makawanpur.

He was out of contact since two days.

The body was found stuck in the wire mesh of the filter of the Mandu hydroelectricity project at Sisneri, Bhimphedi rural municipality in Makawanpur district, the Metropolitan Crime Control Division said.

Division’s chief, Senior Superintendent Deepak Thapa said Baniya’s body was found on Tuesday morning.

He said the police retrieved the body with great difficulty as it was stuck in the net and it had been raining at that time.

The body was pulled out in the evening and taken to Hetauda Hospital for post-mortem examination the same night, Makawanpur’s Superintendent of Police, Sushil Singh Ratour, said the body was identified today only.

Baniya worked at Kantipur Daily for long and joined the Nagarik Daily in the meantime for some time. He again joined Kantipur.

SSP Thapa said he had gone missing after he slipped and fell down in the Balkhu rivulet on August 10.

Efforts to rescue him were in vain due to the high water level and current in the flooded rivulet.
