Govt. to provide free Covid treatment at Manipal and GMC hospital

Pokhara, May 20: Corona patients  will now receive free treatment at Manipal Teaching Hospital and  Gandaki Medical College (GMC) in Pokhara.

The government has signed agreements with more than 30 hospitals to operate Corona Virus (Covid-19) care units. As per the agreement with the government, GMC and Manipal of Pokhara will provide free treatment to the infected person.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, the government will provide Rs 3,500 to Rs 15,000 for the treatment depending on the condition of the infected. However, the bill exceeding Rs 15,000 will be beard by the patients.

The medical superintendent of Gandaki Medical College, Dr. K.S. Tumaya Ghale said-“We are ready to provide free treatment from today.”.

Ghale said the government had agreed to pay Rs 3,500 for general corona patients, Rs 7,500 for moderate patients and Rs 15,000 for complex patients.

It costs more than Rs 15,000 to use expensive drugs like oxygen and Remdesivir.  Initially, it was agreed to set aside 100 beds for corona patients, but up to 222 people are receiving treatment at Gandaki Medical College, she said.

One hundred and four patients are being treated at GMC on Thursday. Of them, 56 were in ICU, 15 in HDU, 3 in cabin and others in isolation beds, she said.
