On May 25, a 46-year-old African-American man, George Floyd, died after Derek Chauvin, a white Minneapolis police officer, knelt on his neck for several minutes. At the time, Mr Floyd was handcuffed and lying face down on the road.

He had been arrested in Powderhorn, a neighbourhood south of downtown Minneapolis in the US state of Minnesota. Following his death four police officers were fired and raged protests have emerged in the state.

On Friday, May 29, massive protests have broken out across the US.

In Minneapolis, protests turned to rioting and looting with people smashing into stores and setting businesses and other buildings ablaze.
