Dhan Bdr Gurung, Pokhara, May 11: There are 10 corona infected people in the emergency department. One of them has died due to corona. Meanwhile in the same section, 5 others are still waiting for their swab’s result. Everyone is being given oxygen and has mask on their face. The same patient is being examined by paramedics without PPE. These scenes were of Monday afternoon at the Emergency Department of the Western Regional Hospital (Gandaki Hospital).
Anil Chhetri from Harinas, Syangja was in emergency department since Saturday taking care of his uncle. His swab was collected on Sunday which turned positive. Chhetri’s uncle, who thought he would be admitted to isolation after the report is positive, has been kept in emergency till Monday with non covid patients.
While waiting for the results of the swab test, a patient who was kept in a bed next to his uncle died at around 10am on Monday. The result of the deceased came out positive only at 4 pm. Then he is even more scared and says that everyone here will be infected by corona. However he is happy with the good supply of oxygen in the hospital.
“Patients with injuries also come to the emergency room. There is a fear of spreading of corona virus through us while treating the accident victims after seeing the corona patients.”
There are 26 beds in Gandaki Hospital. Two beds have been set aside for immediate examination of patients. One of the doctor said that some suspicious patients were also kept in other rooms. In the emergency, except for one orthopedic patient, all the patients are under suspicion.

Meanwhile, the Pokhara Institute of Health Sciences of the hospital said that the corona infected had to be kept in the emergency room as preparations were being made for isolation. Focal person, Dr. Sharad Chandra Baral informed that preparation is underway to make isolation with 40 beds in medical department.
