COVID hospitalization increased in Pokhara but too early to tell full story Reporter

Dhan Bdr. Gurung, Pokhara: Nine corona patients are undergoing treatment at Western Regional Hospital which is popularly known as Gandaki Hospotal. Three of them are on ventilators, the other five are in ICU and one is in general ward. At the time when the second variant of corona was increasing, the medical ward was also made an isolation ward and now 48 beds have been set for corona patients.

Till a week ago, the number of people receiving treatment was zero. Focal person of the hospital, Dr, Sharad Chandra Baral, informed that the number of infected admissions has been increasing in recent days. Earlier, when the case reached zero, the hospital team thought about closing the isolation but now cases are increasing.

The number of corona infections has also started increasing in the Infectious and Contagious Disease Hospital, located in Lekhnath.. Director of the hospital, Bikas Gauchan said that the number has increased from two  to six. The hospital currently has 6 ICUs, 20 HDUs, 6 emergency beds and 27 general isolation beds.

Sample testing for PCR test has also started increasing in the province. According to the State Public Health Laboratory, Gandaki, 500 samples have been collected daily in recent days. “One hundred people come to our laboratory and four hundred samples come from outside,” said Sapna Subedi, director of the directorate.

Corona tests are positive in half of the collected samples. Of the 837 samples tested on Monday, 378 tested positive, according to the state health directorate, Gandaki.  The highest number of 186 people was infected in Kaski district on Monday while only one person was tested positive  in Mustang.
