The Benugopal temple at local Maitidevi is to be reconstructed at an estimated cost of Rs 230 million. Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has provided Rs 5 million for this purpose. Of the total estimated amount, Rs 22.5 million has been collected through the donations from the devotees.
Member of the State ssembly, Deependra Shrestha has committed Rs 5 million. Similarly, president of the temple construction committee, Shivaram Rajbanshi is providing Rs 300 thousand while Chair of the community police service Tanka Shrestha is contributing Rs 100 thousand.
The temple was constructed in 2034 BS on a land plot donated by local Ramdevi Shrestha. KMC mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya took stock of the reconstruction works of the temple on Saturday. On the occasion, he handed over a cheque for Rs 5 million to Temple Reconstruction Committee president Rajbanshi.
Addressing the programme, mayor Shakya said KMC would not allow construction of new temples on open spaces but would provide support in the reconstruction and repair and maintenance of the already existing temples and monuments.
