Apex Court stopped implementaion of demarcation standard set on Fewa lake by Pokhara Metropolis

Pokhara: The Supreme Court has ordered not to implement the decision of the executive meeting of Pokhara Metropolitan City to reduce the standards of various lakes including Fewa.

An interim order was issued on Monday in a writ petition filed on May 25 demanding repeal of the criteria set by the metropolis against the Supreme Court’s order. A bench of Supreme Court Justices Ishwar Khatiwada and Til Prasad Shrestha passed the order.

On March 30 last year, the 55th executive meeting of the metropolis had decided to reduce the standard of the lakes in Pokhara to 35 meters.

Advocates Khagendra Subedi, Sarojnath Pyakurel, Krishna Hari Khadka and Dipendra Prasad Ghimire had filed a writ petition seeking its dismissal. In the petition, Pokhara Metropolitan City, National Lake Conservation Committee Kathmandu, Pokhara Valley Town Development Committee and the Lake Conservation Development Authority under the state government were made the opposition.

The Pokhara Metropolitan City and Kaski Executive Committee, Pokhara Metropolitan City Chief, Pokhara Valley Town Development Committee Kaski, Lake Conservation and Development Authority Kaski Pokhara have been ordered not to build any structure until the issue is finally settled.
