9 IS militants surrender in Afghanistan

Aghanistan, Jan 13:  Nine militants of Islamic State (IS) outfit have surrendered to Afghan national army in Afghanistan’s eastern province of Kunar, the military said on Monday. “Nine Daesh or Islamic State (IS) militants surrendered to Afghan National Army’s personnel in Manogay district, Kunar province on Sunday,” army’s 201 Selab Corps said in a statement.



They also brought with them nine rounds of the light weapons and two telecommunication radios, the statement added.The statement noted that the militants active in eastern Afghan region must follow the step to lay down their arms, adding, “The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces will have no pause in their military pressure, during the winter, and the militants will have to surrender or leave the region.” More than 1,300 IS militants have laid down arms and surrendered to local authorities in Kunar and neighboring Nangarhar province in recent months, as government forces have geared up crackdowns on militants in the region.
